"Let's learn from chaos."
Hi! I’m Claudia Drygala, a researcher working at the
intersection of machine learning, mathematics, engineering, and physics. In particular, I explore how generative models can capture structures and patterns in complex chaotic systems and turbulent flows.
I am currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Chair of
Mathematical Models for Industrial Life Cycles at TU Berlin. There, I pursue questions related to my research interests and contribute to teaching.

Two paper acceptances
4 September 2026
Great news arrived over the last two weeks: two of our papers were accepted for publication in great journals!
- Comparison of Generative Learning for Turbulence Surrogates was accepted for publication in
Computational Science and Engineering. - Learning Brenier Potentials with Convex Generative Adversarial Neural Networks was accepted for publication in Mathematical Foundations of Machine Learning.
Besides all the exciting new insights that came from working on these papers, it was also a lot of fun collaborating with researchers from TU Berlin, RUB, TU Ilmenau, and BUW.

Election as GAMM Junior

I'm very happy and honoured to announce that I have been selected as one of the new GAMM Juniors for 2026, nominated by TU Berlin.
GAMM is the International Association of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics. I'm looking forward to connecting with fellow GAMM Juniors and to everything that lies ahead!
Thesis Successfully Defended
6 August 2026
On 1 July, an exciting chapter of my life came to an end as I successfully defended my PhD thesis, Generative Modeling for Ergodic Systems, with distinction (summa cum laude).
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my supervisor, Prof. Dr. Hanno Gottschalk, for his continuous support throughout my PhD and for the invaluable guidance he provided along the way. I am also very grateful to all the colleagues and collaborators I met during this journey. It has been a pleasure to exchange ideas, work on exciting research questions, and turn them into publications together.
This day will always remain a very special memory, not only because of the successful defense itself, but also because of the wonderful celebration afterward. My heartfelt thanks go to all the wonderful people who joined me. I was deeply touched by the beautiful doctoral hat, the thoughtful presents, and the warm atmosphere created by my colleagues, friends, and family. Thank you all for being there and for making the occasion so memorable!
Finally, I would like to thank my parents and my sister, Nicole, for always believing in me and encouraging me to follow my own path.
I am incredibly happy and proud to have reached this milestone. As one chapter comes to a close, I am excited to see what the future holds.
